It's never going to be a movie in which you want to see over and over again (like the fluffy Wizard of Oz, again a book that is totally different from the movie, where are the complaining people now?) but it's a movie that should be seen. The scene in the monorail where all the passengers are trying to stimulate themselves through their sense of touch is quite moving. ![]() But upon viewing it last night, I have to say I found myself thoroughly engrossed in it. I'd seen the movie in years past, and it never knocked my socks off. I read the book years and years ago, and frankly, I don't remember much about it. They are two different entities which stand alone on their own merits. Its sold more than 10 million copies, earned critical acclaim, and is considered one of the major novels of the 20th century. Hello people! These are two different mediums here, like comparing Katherine Hepburn to Audrey Hepburn. Fahrenheit 451 is Ray Bradbury’s most popular novel. I love Ghost in the Shell and I usually love Shirow's art, but this book was pretty terrible. The majority of this manga is, to put it bluntly, complete and utter crap. I really hate to give such a low rating to anything Ghost in the Shell, but this really deserved it. Two more volumes of Appleseed followed before he began work on Ghost in the Shell. After a professional reprint of Black Magic and a second volume of Appleseed, he released Dominion in 1986. The story was a sensation, and won the 1986 Seiun Award for Best Manga. The result was Appleseed, a full volume of densely-plotted drama taking place in an ambiguous future. His work caught the eye of Seishinsha President Harumichi Aoki, who offered to publish him. While in college, he developed an interest in manga, which led him to create his own complete work, Black Magic, which was published in the manga fanzine Atlas.
